On 6th August 2025, Sibsagar Commerce College organised a special programme to commemorate the launch of the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 scheme — a flagship initiative of the Government of Assam aimed at promoting higher education among girls through monthly financial assistance.
The scheme was officially launched in Guwahati by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a ceremonial event held at the Birinchi Kumar Barua (BKD) Auditorium, Gauhati University. As part of the state-wide observance, Sibsagar Commerce College facilitated a live screening of the event for its girl students from Higher Secondary to Postgraduate levels.
To further engage students with the vision and objectives of the scheme, the college hosted an orientation session featuring Dr. Prakash Kataki, Chairman, SDA, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Kataki provided a detailed overview of the Nijut Moina initiative, explaining its significance, eligibility criteria, and its potential impact on educational empowerment and social transformation.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Saumar Jyoti Mahanta, along with the Vice Principal, Mr. Bijoy Kumar Saikia also spoke on the occasion. Both highlighted the importance of the scheme and encouraged students to utilise this opportunity to pursue their academic aspirations with greater confidence.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Ms. Malin Timungpi, Assistant Professor, Department of Accountancy and Finance, and Mr. Ratul Mazumdar, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
Following the interactive sessions, application forms were distributed to eligible girl students of both Higher Secondary and Postgraduate levels. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ratul Mazumdar.
The event reflected the college’s continued commitment to promoting inclusive education and supporting government initiatives for the betterment of girl students.
