An Awareness and Sensitization Programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act, 2013) was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Sibsagar Commerce College, on 24 June 2026 in the Digital Room of the college.

The programme was inaugurated by the Vice Principal of the college, Mr. Bijoy Saikia. The event was anchored by Dr. Lakhimi Dutta, Coordinator of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

The resource person for the programme was Ms. Urja Chaliha, a law student of Amity University, Noida. She delivered an enlightening and informative lecture on the provisions and significance of the POSH Act, 2013 before an audience of nearly 200 students and teachers. In her detailed presentation, Ms. Chaliha highlighted the importance of ensuring a safe and respectful workplace, explained situations in which the POSH Act can be applied, and discussed the legal procedures and stringent punishments prescribed for offenders under the Act.

The session proved to be highly beneficial for the participants, creating greater awareness about workplace rights, responsibilities, and the mechanisms available for addressing complaints of sexual harassment. The programme successfully sensitised the audience to the importance of maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

The programme concluded with an informative address by the Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, Dr. Saumar Jyoti Mahanta, who appreciated the efforts of the organizers and expressed his gratitude to Ms. Urja Chaliha for her valuable contribution.
