Initially the college was established in the year 1969 with only faculty of commerce. In the year 1977, the Governing body has created another three departments namely Accountancy, Management and Banking. But the governing body has given a separate entity to the department of Commerce on 23rd December, 1993 by appointing Mr. Achyut Kr. Borpujari as head of the department. Currently the department teaches Business Studies in HS Course and many other subjects’ like-Entrepreneurship Development, Corporate Law, Company Law, Auditing, Small Business Management, Financial Management and so on in the UG honours and non-honours courses. Three vocational courses such as Hospitality Management, GST course, Wildlife Photography are running under the direct guidance and control of this department. The departmental faculties have been in active participation in various initiatives of socio-cultural enrichment programmes of the college. With the vision of increasing field-based knowledge, the department have time to time plans to lead students for giving field-based experience by identifying prospective areas for visit. Since its established time, the faculties have been participating in different seminars, conferences, symposiums, workshops etc which helping them to enhance knowledge so as to fit themselves with the modern academic change circumstances
