The Department of Assamese was established in 1972. The Department teaches in Higher Secondary and Undergraduate. It offers courses on Communicative Assamese, Performing Arts, Teaching of Assamese Literature and Language etc... The department is associated with Distance Education Centre under Dibrugarh University for MA and M.ComProgramme. In 2020, the Assamese Department started an ‘Assamese Language Type Training’ called ‘Diksha’. The students of the college as well as the college alumni can undertake the training programme. The college’s annual magazine ‘Gyanam’ published in the year 2022 was done by the students trained under the ‘Diksha’ training programme.
১৯৬৯ চনত প্ৰতিষ্ঠা হোৱা আমাৰ মহাবিদ্যালয়খনিত ১৯৭২ চনৰ ১৪ নৱেম্বৰত আস্না চেতিয়া প্ৰথম অসমীয়া বিভাগৰ প্ৰৱক্তা হিচাপে যোগদান কৰি ২০০৬ চনৰ ৩১ জুলাইত অৱসৰ গ্ৰহণ কৰে। বিভাগৰ দ্বিতীয় গৰাকী প্ৰৱক্তা ৰেণু দেৱী ১৯৭৬ চনৰ ১৯ ফেব্ৰুৱাৰীত যোগদান কৰি ২০০৭ চনৰ ৩১ জানুৱাৰীত অৱসৰ গ্ৰহণ কৰে। দুয়োগৰাকী প্ৰৱক্তা অৱসৰৰ পিছত ২০০৮ চনৰ ১৫ ফেব্ৰুৱাৰীত হৰেন হাজৰীকা ৰেণু দেৱীৰ পদত আৰু ২০০৮ চনৰ ১১ এপ্ৰিলত জোনটি পাটৰ আস্না চেতিয়া পদত নিযুক্তি লাভ কৰে। দুয়োগৰাকী বৰ্তমান এই পদত কৰ্মৰত। দুয়োজন অধ্যাপকে উচ্চতৰ মাধ্যমিকৰ দুয়োটা বৰ্ষৰ লগতে বাণিজ্য শাখাৰ স্নাতক শ্ৰেণীত পাঠদান কৰে। এই মহাবিদ্যালয়ত ২০১৩ বৰ্ষৰ পৰা স্নাতক কলা শাখা আৰম্ভ কৰাত কলা শাখাৰ পাঠদানত দুয়োজন অধ্যাপক জড়িত হৈ আছে। ডিব্ৰুগড় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ অন্তৰ্গত স্নাতকোত্তৰ ( দুৰশিক্ষা) বিভাগৰ মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ অধ্যয়ন কেন্দ্ৰত থকা স্নাতকোত্তৰ অসমীয়া বিভাগৰ বিভিন্ন কৰ্মৰ লগত জড়িত হৈ আছে।
বিভিন্নজনে বিভিন্ন সময়ত অসমীয়া ভাষাত টাইপ চেণ্টাৰ বিচাৰি হাৰাশাস্তি হ'বলগীয়া হয়। সেই অসুবিধাৰ প্ৰতি লক্ষ্য ৰাখি মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ অসমীয়া বিভাগে ২০২০ চনত মহাবিদ্যালয়ত "দীক্ষা" নামেৰে অসমীয়া ভাষাৰ টাইপ প্ৰশিক্ষণ চেণ্টাৰ এটি আৰম্ভ কৰে। এই চেণ্টাৰৰ জৰিয়তে মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ আগ্ৰহী ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীৰ লগতে মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ প্ৰাক্তন ছাত্ৰীয়েও প্ৰশিক্ষণ লয়। ২০২২ বৰ্ষত প্ৰকাশিত মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ বাৰ্ষিক আলোচনী "জ্ঞানম" এই চেণ্টাৰত প্ৰশিক্ষিত ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীয়ে এই চেণ্টাৰতে টাইপ সম্পূৰ্ণ কৰি প্ৰকাশৰ দিহা কৰে।
এই মহাবিদ্যালয়ত অসমীয়া বিষয়ত অনাৰ্চ পাঠ্যক্ৰমৰ ব্যৱস্থা নাই যদিও ইতিমধ্যে অসম চৰকাৰলৈ অনাৰ্চ পাঠ্যক্ৰম খুলিবৰ বাবে অনুমতি বিচাৰি আৱেদন কৰা হৈছে।
It has been an earnest endeavour on the part of the department to undertake number of academic and co-curricular activities. The department also undertakes various initiatives as its responsibility towards the society.
The department has been offering U.G. Non-major Courses under Dibrugarh University.
